4:30pm – March 16th 2020

The Regional Academies of Sport, in conjunction with event host, Hunter Academy of Sport, regret to advise that under the Australian Government COVID-19 directive restricting all public gatherings of more than 500 people, the 2020 Your Local Club Academy Games has been cancelled. This includes the associated basketball tournament that had previously been moved to June.

The health and welfare of our athletes, families and staff is always our number one priority. Due to the escalating impact of the COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding the rapidly changing situation, the Regional Academies made the difficult collective decision to cancel its showcase annual event planned for the Hunter Region on April 3rd-5th 2020.

We would like to acknowledge our long-term partners, the NSW Office of Sport and ClubsNSW, for their continued support. Special thanks should also go to our regional partners for this year’s event including City of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie City Council, Newcastle Herald and NBN Television.

We would like to take this opportunity to announce the dates for the 2021 and 2022 Your Local Club Academy Games;

  • April 16-18th 2021 – Hunter Region
  • April 8-10th 2022 – Host Region TBC.

In 2020, the Your Local Club Academy Games will be hosted once again by the Hunter Academy of Sport from Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th April 2020 across the Hunter region. The Hunter Academy of Sport will continue to host the Games in 2021.

The 2020 Your Local Club Academy Games will showcase some of the state’s most talented emerging athletes across seven (7) sports including Basketball (to be held at a later date), Golf, Hockey, Netball, Softball, AFL and Triathlon. RASi is the owner of the Your Local Club Academy Games and works with the event host academy to co-ordinate the event.

Your Local Club has been the Principle Partner for the Academy Games since its inception, and the Regional Academies of Sport Incorporated is proud to be associated with such a supportive and progressive organisation.

The NSW Government, through the Office of Sport, also provides strong support for the conduct of the Academy Games.

The development of the ‘Academy Games’ is the first demonstration of the strength and commitment of the RASi network to deliver tangible benefits to athletes throughout NSW.
