The Central Coast Academy of Sport has totally rebuilt its Athletics program to ensure a more targeted approach to the sport is offered locally.
With the untiring support of Mingara Recreation Club and Mingara One the Central Coast Academy of Sport Athletics program is now a ‘value add’ model, new to the organisation. After a thorough review with some of the region’s best coaches, it was identified a change was required. What was noticeable was athlete numbers had slipped and the network of coaches could be further engaged. Coaching with an emphasis on sharing information and greater connectivity of the support services in the sport could also be improved. The CCAS is the voice of sport across its region and it is important that a stronger and more robust program was offered to build both the program and the engagement of coaches throughout. The result appears to have hit the mark as uptake by athletes has been extremely positive.
The revised Athletics program got underway at Mingara Recreation Club with a large number of athletes and parents in attendance, in terms of immediate popularity this is an outstanding result. All who were successful in gaining entry can look forward with great anticipation to a program that is not only unique, but one that will deliver real advantage for all in the squad. A program camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra is an extremely popular element of the program, the squad will compete as part of the ACT Championships.
Mark Tipple the CCAS Programs & Communication Manager said of the program commencement “The new structure of the CCAS Athletics program was designed to support local track & field athletes who are focused on competing and who prioritise their discipline of athletics. It’s fantastic to see the strong response to the new format that adds a lot of value thanks to our generous partners and supporters such as Mingara, Athletics NSW and Coast Sport.
